Fakultas Sastra, Budaya, dan Komunikasi semula bernama Fakultas Sastra. Fakultas Sastra mulai diselenggarakan sejak tahun 1997 yang diawali dengan pembukaan program studi Sastra Inggris dan Sastra Indonesia berdasarkan Surat Keputusan No: 232/DIKTI/Kep./1997 tanggal 1 Agustus 1997 yang ditandatangani oleh Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi Republik Indonesia. Dalam perkembangannya, kedua prodi tersebut sudah mendapatkan akreditasi dari BAN PT

Perkembangan kebutuhan pengguna serta kemajuan teknologi dalam hal komunikasi dan media menuntut perubahan dalam menyiapkan sumber daya manusia. Salah satunya adalah keperluan untuk menciptakan ilmuwan dalam bidang komunikasi dan media. Oleh karena itu, berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia No 34/E/O/2012, Fakultas Sastra mulai menyelenggarakan program studi Ilmu Komunikasi. Dengan bertambahnya program studi Ilmu Komunikasi, nama fakultas perlu disesuaikan supaya bisa menaungi ketiga program studi tersebut. Maka, berdasarkan Keputusan Rektor Universitas Ahmad Dahlan nomor 138 tahun 2012, nama Fakultas Sastra berubah menjadi Fakultas Sastra, Budaya, dan Komunikasi.

Ketiga program studi yang berada di bawah Fakultas Sastra, Budaya, dan Komunikasi telah terakreditasi. Sastra Inggris terakreditasi A dengan BAN-PT No. 2770/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2018. Sastra Indonesia terakreditasi A dengan SK BAN-PT No. 4161/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2019. Ilmu Komunikasi terakreditasi Baik Sekali dengan SK BAN-PT No. 6055/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IX/2020.

The Faculty of Letters, Culture, and Communication was initially being called the Faculty of Letters. [Literature has been running since 1997, which began with the opening of the English Literature and Indonesian Literature study program based on Decree No: 232/DIKTI/Kep./1997 dated August 1, 1997, which was signed by the Director-General of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia. In its development, both study programs have received accreditation from BAN-PT.

The development of digital media and technological advances in communication demand changes in providing human resources in communication and media. Therefore, the Faculty of Letters began to organize a Communication Studies study program based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 34/E/O/2012. With the increase in the Communication Science study program, it needs to be adjusted to accommodate the third study program. So, based on the Decree of the Chancellor of Ahmad Dahlan University number 138 of 2012, the name of the Faculty of Letters changed to the Faculty of Letters, Culture, and Communication.

The third study program under the Faculty of Letters, Culture, and Communication has been accredited. English Literature accredited A with BAN-PT No. 2770/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2018.
