Ringsinema Invite Idan Firdaus; Talking about Movies and the Creation of a New Formula Horror Genre

FSBK—Ringsinema invited Idan Firdaus, one of the filmmakers in Indonesia, for a film screening and sharing session entitled “Meruang” on Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Zoom virtual room.
Ringsinema is a community of Communication Studies departement for film screening, appreciation, and discussion. Film screenings and sharing sessions are something that Ringsinema often does. This year, Ringsinema also invited Idan Firdaus to be one of the speakers. Idan Firdaus is an Indonesian filmmaker who works and lives in Bandung.
In this event, Ringsinema discussed with Idan Firdaus about the film they had made, namely The Sun Never Sets.
Idan Firdaus revealed that this year he wanted to brand himself with the films he made.
“So there are many horror films that jumpscare, shocking. Well, I want to change that in my film. So I have my own formula,” he said.
In this film, Idan Firdaus occupies three positions, namely director, scriptwriter, and editor.
He also revealed that in exploring the purpose of the film, he actually made the film first, then thought about the goal.
“For me, anyway, the goal is later. I want to create my own audience. I created my own flow,” said Idan Firdaus.
Idan Firdaus said that there are many good films (good stories and well understood). According to him, if he followed the same style, he would not be seen.
“So there are a lot of good films out there. And if I follow that style, I will not be seen in Indonesian films. If I have my own style, I can be seen. What I want later, people will judge ‘film ini ke-Idan-idan-an,’ (this film is great)” he said.
The Meruang event will take place from August 13-15, 2021, featuring 14 films and 3 speakers.
